Asha Prasad an accomplished Mysore traditional artist is based in the Heritage City. She was raised close to the royal traditions of Mysore, At the young age of 12, she was introduced to the world of Mysore traditional art and soon started to train under the renowned Palace artist Shri Ramanarasaiah. 35 years since she has been dedicated to this humble form of art. Mysore style of painting is a classical South Indian art form that involves hand-ground colors, minute relief work and the usage of delicate Pure Gold leaves. Asha has not only mastered the art form but has also helped it survive and thrive by teaching it to many enthusiasts. Her students, the youngest being 7 years old and the eldest being 70, have learned the very authentic and traditional ways and methods of the art and have also made it a point to practice and carry it forward.
Along with Mysore Traditional Art, Asha also picked up, practiced and mastered other traditional art forms of India, like Kerala Mural art on Mysore silk cloth or on paper, Rajasthani painting on silk cloth, Picchhwai Art, Kinnala are a few to name. All the art forms that she practices and teaches are in their very authentic form using hand-ground colors and pure source materials. In a decade when the art had very few pursuers and was facing a deficit of interest, Asha made it point to make it reach more and more people, through her students as well as by creating incredible customized pieces of art for patrons in India and around the world.
