World Environment Day
World Environment Day, which is also known as 'Eco Day' and 'Environment Day', is observed on June 5 ever year to lay emphasis on the role of environment in providing essential infrastructure that supports life on earth and human development. The World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, resulting from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. Two years later, in 1974 the first Eco Day was held with the theme "Only One Earth". This year, the theme for the World Environment Day is 'Biodiversity' and 'Time for Nature'.
Celebrations of World Environment Day each year are based on the particular theme declared by United Nations. The theme of this year is extremely relevant because human beings are part of the ecosystem and cannot continue to survive in isolation. Biodiversity is important for the survival of all living things big and small, on land, or in water.
